Privacy Policy

1. Introduction
www.marriagesunnah.com places great importance on protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy describes the types of data we collect, how we use them and the measures taken to protect them, in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
2. Data Collected
Personal data provided by the user: When you register and use the Site, we collect information such as your name, email address, date of birth, gender, location and marriage preferences.
Date of birth: You give it when you register, or while preparing your profile. We keep it to calculate your age, which updates every year: only your age is shown on your profile and used by the search filters, never your date of birth.
Optional profile answers: While preparing your profile, you can share your marriage plans (wish for children, timeframe, the role of the family or of the wali [a woman's guardian for marriage], where you will live after the marriage), the languages you speak, your level of education, your field of work, your passions, your personality traits and a few sentences to complete. Each of these questions can be skipped. Your answers are shown on your published profile, like the others; your sentences, written in your own words, are reviewed by a moderator before they are published.
Phone number: When the Site asks you to — today, sisters, before sending or replying to a message, requesting a discussion, adding a member to their Favorites or sending a Super Message —, you give your mobile phone number and confirm it by entering a code received by SMS. Your number is stored encrypted; it is never shown on your profile and is never shared with any member: only the "Verified" badge shows that the verification has been done.
How you heard about us: Just after you register, we ask you how you heard about the Site (someone close to you, a social network, a search engine, a group…). The question can be skipped. Your answer is never shown on your profile: it is used only to know through which channels our members discover us.
Data collected automatically: When you browse the Site, some data may be collected automatically, including your IP address, the type of browser used and information about your use of the Site.
Affiliate and referral data: If you arrive on the Site by following the link of a partner (affiliate) or a member's invitation, your account may keep the internal reference of that partner or referrer and the date of your arrival. This data is used only to credit the person concerned; it is never shared with them in a form that could identify you — they see only numbers, never your name — and it is not used for any profiling or any device fingerprinting.
3. Purposes of Data Processing
The data collected is used to:
Provide and manage the Site's services.
Show each member which members have opened their full profile (see section 9, "Profile Views").
Check that a real phone number is behind an account, to fight fake profiles, and that one number is used for only one account.
Review and approve the messages exchanged between users, to ensure respect for Islamic values.
Handle any disputes between users.
Improve the user experience and the functioning of the Site.
Know through which channels our members discover the Site.
Remind you once, by email, to finish your profile if you started it without sending it: this reminder is sent two days after your last step, and no other follows it.
Comply with legal and regulatory obligations.
4. Data Sharing
Your personal data will not be sold, exchanged or rented to third parties. It may be shared with third-party service providers who help us operate the Site, provided they comply with strict obligations regarding confidentiality and data protection. To verify your phone number, it is sent to our SMS provider, which sends you the code and checks it; we never keep this code.
5. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized destruction, loss, alteration or disclosure.
6. Data Retention
Your personal data is kept for as long as necessary to provide the Site's services and to meet our legal obligations. It will be deleted or anonymized at the end of that period.
To guarantee the uniqueness and fairness of the referral program, the anonymous record of a confirmed referral (the fact that an account counted once for a referrer, without any personal data) is kept even after the deletion of the account concerned.
Profile views are kept for three months from the last opening of the full profile, then erased (see section 9, "Profile Views").
Your date of birth is erased with your account.
Your phone number, and the fact that it was verified, are erased with your account. The record of each code sent — its date, without your number — is used to limit the number of sends; it is erased no later than 36 hours after the send.
Your answer to the question "How did you hear about us?" is kept after the deletion of your account, to keep measuring our communication channels.
The date on which the reminder to finish your profile was sent to you is kept after the deletion of your account, to measure how many profiles are finished after it.
7. User Rights
In accordance with the GDPR, you have the following rights:
Right of access: You can request access to the personal data we hold about you.
Right to rectification: You can request the correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
Right to erasure: You can request the deletion of your personal data, subject to our legal retention obligations.
Right to restriction of processing: You can request that the processing of your data be restricted in certain cases.
Right to object: You can object to the processing of your data on legitimate grounds.
Right to data portability: You can request to receive your data in a structured, commonly used format.
To exercise these rights, please contact us at [email protected].
9. Profile Views
When you open, from your account, another member's full profile — from Explore, your Favorites, a discussion, a request received or a shared profile link —, the Site records your view. Scrolling through cards without opening a full profile is not a view; opening your own full profile is not one either. A full profile opened without being signed in to your account leaves no trace.
Purpose: to show each member who has opened their full profile — in the "Viewed you" tab of "Activity" in the app —, so that everyone knows who took an interest in their profile.
Data recorded: only the fact that you opened that member's full profile, along with the date and time of your last view. The Site keeps neither how many times you came nor their history: if you open the same full profile again, only the date of the last view is kept.
Who sees what: the member whose full profile you open sees your view and when it happened; likewise, you see the members who opened yours. This information is shown to no other member and to no third party. If your profile is not visible to that member — profile unpublished, account deleted, blocking in either direction —, your view is not shown to them, and vice versa. Only real members appear: the Site never shows a fake view.
No discreet mode: it is not possible to open a full profile without that member being able to see it. A message in the app warns you once, before your first view; no view is recorded before you have read it.
Retention: each view is kept for three months from your last opening of the full profile, then erased; opening the same full profile again restarts that period. When your account is deleted, the views you made or received immediately stop being shown and are erased no later than three months afterwards.
Weekly recap: when new members have opened your full profile during the week, a recap email may be sent to you, with the number of new views and a preview of a few of them. No email is sent for each view. You can unsubscribe from this recap at any time using the link in each email.
The rights described in section 7 apply to this data.
10. Changes to the Privacy Policy
We reserve the right to change this Privacy Policy at any time. Changes will be published on this page and, if they are significant, we will inform you by email.
